The Shanghai Forum for Education Excellence 2022 (SFEE 2022) & The 9th International Conference on World-Class Universities (WCU-9) hosted by the School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University will be held online on November 17-18, 2022.
Established in 2020, the School of Education (SOE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a young academic institution with a long history. Tracing back to 1897, Nanyang College developed the first teacher education program in China. In 1985, the Program of Higher Education was established in SJTU, which outgrew the Graduate School of Education in 2007 and then expanded to SOE to serve both secondary and post-secondary education since 2020.
SOE provides stepping stones for students to be competent in delivering instructions and to be capable of conducting rigorous research and shaping educational policies. Degrees offered in SOE include M.Sc., M.A., and Ph.D. in education. We prepare future leading educators with solid academic training, rich apprenticeship experiences, and a comprehensive supporting system including faculties, peers, and educational practitioners. All we do aims to meet the changing needs of the local and global community, to improve society, and to make human experiences better for generations to come.
In the post-pandemic era, educational reforms and development are faced with both opportunities and challenges. Excellent education has been proposed to better meet the need for innovative talents in the context of globalization and informatization. Under such context, the School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will hold Shanghai Forum for Education Excellence-2022, SFEE 2022 on November 17, 2022, with the theme “Futures of Education in the Post-Pandemic Era”, which explores the ways of cultivating creative K12 teachers and students for the 21st Century. Well-known scholars both at home and abroad will be invited to share their expertise on future campus construction, interdisciplinary curriculum design, future teacher development, future student development, emerging technologies, and instruction. Through this conference, we hope to explore the feasible methods, models, and paths of future education, boost excellent educational innovations, and enhance the mechanism of cultivating innovative talents. To advance local education towards excellence and propose new approaches to educational reforms, SFEE 2022 is devoted to developing an open, inclusive and resilient education, sharing a bright vision of future education featuring intelligence, personalization, and fairness.

Over the past few years, world-class universities were significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Universities face immense challenges as online courses increased, international mobility changes, and budgets fall. In response, world-class universities are committed to leading innovation in learning and teaching, maintaining excellence in scientific research, transforming university governance, and enhancing international communication and cooperation, which will contribute to future global development in times of uncertainty.
World-Class Universities (WCU), commonly recognized as global research universities or flagship universities, are essential in developing a nation’s potential for development in the knowledge economy and in seeking conceptual and practical solutions to daunting challenges. To continue and further deepen our previous conferences’ discussions on building world-class higher education systems and the indispensable roles of WCUs in teaching, research, and service, particularly in the uncertain post-pandemic era, the theme for WCU-9, which will be held on 18 November 2022, is “World-Class Universities: Challenges and Opportunities in the Post-Pandemic Era”, which will shed light on WCUs’ challenges and opportunities in response to the changing landscape of higher education and our society as a whole.
