Design philosophy: The design is based on the image of an owl, which symbolizes wisdom and courage. SJTU is the abbreviation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and SOE is the abbreviation of School of Education. The name "Jiao Xiaoyu" is taken from the word "Jiao" in "Shanghai Jiao Tong University" and the word "Yu" in "School of Education". The nickname "arwu" stems from ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which was established and first published in 2003 first published in 2003 by the Center for Research on World-Class Universities at the School of Education (formerly the Institute of Higher Education) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and is the first comprehensive global university ranking in the world.
