Press Release of "Education in China and the World 2023" on Shanghai Book Fair

On the afternoon of August 16, the press release "Education in China and the World 2023", co-organized by the Publicity Department of SJTU, the School of Education of SJTU, and the SJTU Press, was successfully held on the first day of the opening of the Shanghai Book Fair.

HU Hao, Director of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; ZHANG Zhi, Director of the Education Bureau of Baoshan District, Shanghai; QIAN Tiantong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of SJTU Press; CHEN Huadong, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Press House; WANG Linyuan, Secretary of the Party Branch of the School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Director of the Office of Basic Education of the University; LIU Niancai, Dean of the School of Education, Distinguished Professor and Editor-in-Chief of the book; FENG Zhuolin, Professor of the School of Education, and Editor-in-Chief of the book; LI Yan, Editorial Director for Humanities and Social Sciences of Springer Nature and Director for Books in China as well as a number of journalist from major media in Shanghai and China attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by CHEN Huadong.

First of all, WANG and QIAN thanked readers presented at the press release. Prof. FENG then introduced the overview of the book. LI spoke on behalf of Springer and introduced the plan that Education in China and the World 2023 is going to be published in open access at the end of 2023.

Afterwards, HU, ZHANG, LIU and CHEN held a roundtable discussion on how to better tell the story of Chinese education. Prof. LIU explained the background and future planning of the book. The idea of writing this book began with China's growing national power, which has made the world's attention gradually focus on Chinese achievement, not least on the country’s education. However, due to the complexity and diversity of education systems in different countries, there is a lack of systematic, reliable, and comprehensive data on China's education globally. Thus, this his book collects and published systematic data and vivid cases to show the true side of China's education. In the future, this book will be released annually, hoping to become one of the important channels for the international community to obtain data and stories about Chinese education.

"Education in China and the World 2023" is the first book in the series, "Education Stories in China", an important academic brand of the School of Education. Looking ahead, SOE will work with SJTU Press to publish the following books in succession.
