Dr. GUAN Yuzhen Presented at the 16th International Conference on the History of Science in East Asia (16th ICHSEA)

Dr. GUAN Yuzhen, an associate professor of the School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, attended and presented at the 16th International Conference on the History of Science in East Asia (16th ICHSEA). Dr. GUAN also served as a member of the International Program Committee of the conference.

The 16th ICHSEA took place at Goethe-University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 21st-25th Aug, 2023, on behalf of the International Society for the History of East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine (ISHEASTM). The ICHSEA series is one of the most important international conferences in the field of history of science and technology. The theme of the 16th ICHSEA is Crises and Entanglements, Science, Technology and Medicine in East Asia. Dr. GUAN Yuzhen was invited to be a member of the International Program Committee (https://www.uni-frankfurt.de/118844164/Committees). The committee members are responsible for evaluate abstracts for panels and individual papers of scholars applying to participate in the conference.

Dr. GUAN gave a presentation entitled "What is the Shape of Earth? A Comparative Study on Chinese and Mesopotamian Sources" in the session “History of Metrology: A Special Perspective to Understand the World”. By means of analyzing a variety of cuneiform sources as well as Chinese primary sources, the paper analyzed the similarities and distinctions on the views of the shape and size of earth, in the Mesopotamian and the Chinese traditions from a comparative perspective.
