SOE PhD Candidate, QIAN Jiali, has been a visiting scholar ar Ohio State University. Following is her sharing from the experience.
The overseas exchange experience has enriched my academic and personal growth. As a doctoral student in education and a former competitive swimmer, the intersection of these two facets of my identity took on new dimensions when the School of Education afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with Professor BAO Lei from the Department of Physics at Ohio State University.

Under ProfessorBAO’s mentorship, my journey as a visiting scholar was marked by profound intellectual exploration and personal growth. His unique approach, grounded in the principles of physics, brought a fresh perspective to my research in education. Through our regular interactions, I delved into the depths of interdisciplinary discourse, where the realms of physics and education converged in unexpected and illuminating ways. Embracing Professor Bao's encouragement to immerse myself in diverse academic pursuits, I ventured beyond the boundaries of my own discipline. Attending lectures in kinesiology and engaging in vibrant discussions with scholars from various fields broadened my understanding of sports and its intersection with education. These experiences deepened my academic insights and fueled my passion for interdisciplinary inquiry.

The university library was one of my favorite places to frequent during my exchange. Whether enveloped by sleek, contemporary architecture or ensconced within the cozy ambiance of its historical sections, each visit was akin to embarking on a thrilling adventure through the corridors of knowledge. Every step I took amidst the towering shelves of books represented a step closer to unlocking new insights and understanding. The library became more than just a repository of information; it transformed into a vibrant nexus of ideas, where diverse perspectives converged and innovation flourished. Surrounded by the energy of fellow scholars and the allure of untapped knowledge, I felt empowered to push the boundaries of my own understanding and embrace the limitless possibilities that lay before me.

Moreover, the richness of my exchange experience extended far beyond the confines of academia. Engaging with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds illuminated the tapestry of human experiences, fostering a profound appreciation for the complexities of our global community. These interactions served as windows into alternate perspectives, challenging my preconceptions and enriching my worldview with a tapestry of diverse narratives.
I am profoundly grateful for the invaluable opportunity the School and university provide. This exchange experience has shaped my scholarly pursuits and fostered a deeper sense of empathy, curiosity, and appreciation for the interconnectedness of knowledge and human experience.
