Professor FENG Zhuolin Invited as Distinguished Chinese Guest to BRICS Civil Forum

From July 2 to 4, Assistant Dean and Professor FENG Zhuolin of School of Education attended the BRICS Civil Forum in Moscow at the invitation of the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Russia. As a distinguished Chinese guest, she delivered a report on China’s education development, analyzing its current state and future global trends.


The 2024 BRICS Civil Forum, hosted by Russia as the rotating chair of BRICS this year, centered around the theme “Right to Development: Equity, Equality, and Justice”. The forum gathered experts and scholars from 10+ countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to discuss new opportunities and challenges for BRICS cooperation.

In the education sub-forum, Professor FENG’s presentation, focused on “Reform,” reviewed significant adjustments and achievements in China’s education policies. She highlighted the vibrant development of Chinas education sector, the internal logic and external drivers of its reforms, and the potential opportunities and challenges for BRICS nations. Professor FENG also emphasized the critical role of education in driving social progress amidst technological revolutions, geopolitical changes, and global common good(s). She called on scholars to take an active role with an open and inclusive mindset to explore new pathways for transforming countries from a large education provider to a strong one and to deepen educational cooperation with other countries, particularly BRICS nations, to enhance educational equity and quality.

During the forum, Professor FENG was invited to engage in in-depth discussions with faculty members of the Institute of Education at the HSE University, exploring mutual educational interests and future cooperation.

This visit provided SOE and SJTU with a valuable platform to showcase China’s education achievements and build closer collaborative bridges with international peers, promoting multilateral educational cooperation and exchange.
