Interview Q&A
Q1: Looking back on your one-year teaching internship, what impressed you most?
The internship at the senior three graduating class of No. 2 High School of East China Normal University (Minhang Zizhu Campus) is an invaluable experience in my educational career. Over the past year, what impressed me most was not only the improvement of teaching skills, but also the transformation from a “student” to an “educator” under the guidance of Teacher Chen Yulu. After every trial lecture, Teacher Chen would discuss with me patiently—from teaching situation design, logical closure of teaching links to the layout of blackboard writing. Once, for an open class, she helped me revise five versions of lesson plans and listened to my simulated lectures during lunch break. This strict polishing made me understand that an excellent lesson is forged through repeated refinement.
Teacher Chen taught me more than teaching techniques. As a senior three Chinese teacher, her gentleness and firmness when comforting anxious students, and her fairness and wisdom in managing class affairs, have deeply influenced me. This year, with patience and wisdom, she taught me what good Chinese education is and how to treat students and myself sincerely. This is a lifelong treasure for me.
Q2: What suggestions do you have for juniors to balance professional study and diverse development?
I think absolute “balance” is an unrealistic goal, and dynamic “choice” is the normal state. We cannot divide every day into perfectly equal parts. Instead, we should act like a conductor, knowing which part to highlight and which to support. You may first clarify your priorities and manage time by levels.
Diverse development is like an “exploration” outside your academic base. It helps you see the wider world, meet different people and discover more possibilities. Don’t worry about whether every step is perfect. Just make sure you are moving forward, feeling and growing.
May you keep moving forward bravely and always look up at the stars.
