Next Frontier: Professional Wellbeing and Lifelong Learning

As outlined in the World Economic Forums Future of Jobs Report 2020, 50% of all employees around the world will need reskilling by 2025. The need to future-proof peoples skills has never been so urgent with the COVID-19 pandemic bringing about unprecedented structural change in many sectors, job transitions and shift to remote working.


Under such circumstance, on February 24th, the fifth edition of the nexFrontier webinar series was held, to discuss how to address the dynamic role of personal resources in overcoming occupational disadvantages and facilitating career development. Dr. Liu Huabing, lecturer from SOE attended the webinar.


To start with, Prof. Dr. Alexandra M. Freund from the University of Zurich presented a new model integrating subjective expectations and motivational functions of exhaustion and recovery in different life domains. Prof. Dr. Emily M. David from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) talked about her research on social behaviour in co-working spaces, and in particular, help received while working in the workplace of the future. To conclude, Prof. Dr. Xianmin Gong from the Chinese University of Hong Kong shared his research findings of factors that contribute to the age-related change in personal goals and discuss the implications for lifelong learning.

Dr. Liu Huabing said this web conference was quite well-organized and impressive. As a psychological well-being researcher, it was inspiring for her to scientifically learn how people felt in their workplace and how their experiences were researched. She is looking forward to hear more from the conference next time.
