SOE Faculty Member and Student Attended and Presented at ISSE 2024

The 8th International STEM in Education Conference (ISSE2024) was recently held online. The conference, hosted by the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary, Canada, gathered global education researchers to discuss key issues in the learning, teaching, design, and development within STEM education. Professor CHIANG Feng-Kuang and PhD candidate JIANG Zhujun from SOE participated in the conference and delivered presentations.

JIANG Zhujun shared research findings on a university-enterprise AI education program. This study, conducted in collaboration with the Student Innovation Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, employed a quasi-experimental design, combining questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. It investigated changes in Chinese high school students' attitudes towards using AI for social good, AI anxiety, and AI career motivation before and after participating in the education program. The results indicated that students' recognition of the social benefits of AI significantly increased, AI anxiety significantly decreased, and AI career motivation significantly improved. Additionally, students highly rated the program's course design, teacher-student interactions, and learning benefits, while also providing suggestions for improvements in course pacing and group task distribution. After the presentation, JIANG Zhujun engaged with attendees in discussions on enhancing female role models in AI education, among other topics.
