In this season of reflection and gratitude, we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the reestablishment of Education at SJTU and the 5th anniversary of our SOE. Click and read our history and vision.

By the Siyuan Lake, the sound of reading fades; in front of the Nanyang Court, the mission of education endures. As another graduation season arrives, students from the School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University are about to set off for their future journeys. Standing at the crossroads of life, some are firm, some are confused, some are ready to take off, and some move forward calmly. Whatever path they choose, they carry the spirit of SJTU and the sincere feelings of educators. In this graduate interview, we invite Lin Jieyu, Shanghai Outstanding Graduate majoring in Chinese Language Teaching, to share her journey and insights.

My greatest strength in job hunting lies in my solid teaching practice accumulated through a year-long internship, with more than 70 teaching hours delivered to senior high school students. My graduate studies enabled me to integrate subject knowledge with student-centered teaching concepts such as project-based and interdisciplinary learning. I was deeply influenced by my supervisor Professor CEN, whose rigorous scholarship and care guided me to reflect on the essence of being a qualified teacher. Looking ahead, I aim to keep improving my teaching practice, stay connected with my students, and strive to become a dedicated Chinese teacher and a reflective practitioner.

DING Haozhan, a graduate from the School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, now works as an English teacher at the high school affiliated to SJTU. Inspired by his high school homeroom teacher, he gradually overcame his shyness and developed a passion for teaching. Despite having internship experience in finance and consulting as a business English major, he chose to pursue a career in education. During his postgraduate studies, he was deeply influenced by two professors who embodied the true spirit of teaching. Today, as a homeroom teacher, he devotes himself to nurturing students with care and warmth, just as others once did for him. He encourages young people to follow their hearts, embrace hard work, and pass on kindness.
